First Group Cuts Power

IN its drive to achieve carbon emission reductions of 20 per cent in its rail division by 2020, First Group has signed up with independent electricity supplier Opus Energy for a programme of energy management to keep consumption to a minimum at its 600 rail and bus sites throughout the country.

The whole of First’s electricity supply for its buildings will be sourced from cleaner, low-carbon sources generated from on-shore wind, small-scale hydro and biomass. The company is now able to take full advantage of Opus Energy’s purchasing scheme which provides customers with direct access to wholesale energy prices.

Smart meters will be installed in all First’s business locations, enabling the company to monitor more closely electricity usage and monitor any peaks in performance to reconcile its energy bills without the need for traditional meter reading.
