Derailment blocked West Coast line near Glasgow

AN engineering train blocked the West Coast Main Line between Carluke and Carstairs for much of Sunday, disrupting ScotRail and Virgin Trains.

The incident occurred at about 09.30 on Sunday morning. Because the line was blocked, emergency replacement buses ran between Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle. Services disrupted iincluded ScotRail trains to Lanark as well as Virgin Trains services between Glasgow and London, which terminated for a while at Carlisle.
