East Midlands strike set to go ahead tomorrow
THE RMT has confirmed that the first of three Saturdays of strikes by senior conductors on East Midlands Trains will be going ahead tomorrow. The dispute concerns what the union described as ‘Pay Discrimination and Contract issues’. EMT said its main line services between London, Corby, Nottingham and Sheffield should run as usual, but services will be reduced on some other routes.
Underground line wifi to be upgraded
THE eastern half of the Jubilee Line of London Underground is to get full wifi, including on trains in the running tunnels between stations, from March 2020. Transport for London said the line, which serves London Bridge, London Docklands and North Greenwich, has been one of the most high-profile ‘not-spots’ in the country. The trial of 4G service is the first of its kind on tube trains, although there is already free wifi on more than 260 Underground stations as well as TfL Rail. The service will also cover ticket halls and corridors at stations along this section of the Jubilee apart from London Bridge and Waterloo, which will be added later, subject to final approvals. TfL chief technology officer Shashi Verma said: ‘The London Underground network is an incredibly challenging environment in which to deliver technological improvements, but we are now well on the path to delivering mobile connectivity within our stations and tunnels.’
