London fares to stay frozen in 2020

TRANSPORT FOR LONDON fares are to be unchanged in 2020, which will be the last year of a four-year commitment by the Mayor Sadiq Khan to keep fares frozen. The freeze will cover fares for single pay-as you go journeys on the Underground and Docklands Light Railway, and also on trams and buses. However, Travelcards will increase in price to allow for the expected 2.8 per cent increase in National Rail fares in January. TfL’s budget is in deficit, and the situation has been made worse by the loss of fares income from the delayed Elizabeth Line, which is unlikely to open before 2021.

Welsh line closure starts today

THE Milford Haven branch in west Wales has closed from today so that Network Rail can clear lineside vegetation, including dead and diseased trees. The work will involve twelve-hour shifts, starting at 06.00 every day, and will continue until 22 December. While there are no trains between Clarbeston Road and Milford Haven, replacement buses will run from Carmarthen. Lineside trees have already proved to be a problem in the area, because buses have been replacing trains between Fishguard & Goodwick and Fishguard Harbour since early November, while unsafe trees were removed. Trains are now running again on that line.
