Trains set to be only long-distance public transport

THE only way of travelling longer distances in Britain by public transport will soon be by rail, after the main long-distance coach operators announced that their services will cease by Sunday night. National Express is withdrawing all its coach routes for the time being, and Stagecoach Megabus will no longer operate in England and Wales. The news follows the withdrawal of most domestic flights. Intercity trains are still running, although their frequencies have been reduced sharply. Further reductions in National Rail services are expected from Monday, as the demand for travel continues to fall.
