Safety course launched as level crossing misuse continues

Network Rail has launched a free rail safety programme for children, just as new footage has shown people taking risks with their lives on a level crossing in Nottinghamshire. The latest images released by Network Rail show young girls doing handstands on the line, as well as people taking selfies on the railway, lying down on the track for 'photo opportunities' or sitting on the crossing. The new safety programme is closely aligned to key stage levels for three age groups, 3 -6, 7-11 and 12 -16. Called Switched On, the programme teaches children about the dangers of trespassing on railways, and encourages them to see the hazards of misusing the railway for themselves.
