Industrial action and very hot weather are set to disrupt rail services seriously over the next few days.
Some operators have warned that they will not be able to run any trains on Saturday, when ASLEF drivers stage a 24-hour strike. Avanti West Coast also expects a number of stations on its route to be closed, including Birmingham New Street. As with previous walkouts, the disruption on Saturday will continue for a while on Sunday morning.
Network Rail has now confirmed that London Euston will also be closed, except for external entrances to the London Underground.
The stoppage will coincide with a busy weekend for football, with Premier League games arranged in Manchester, London, Birmingham and Brighton.
There is also an amber warning of very hot weather in much of England, although temperatures are not forecast to reach the record 40C plus which was recorded last month. On days when trains are running, Network Rail may have to impose speed limits as a result of the heat.
Further ahead, more disruption is expected on 18 and 20 August, when the RMT and TSSA will be staging simultaneous strikes. RMT members are also due to strike on London Underground and London Overground on 19 August.
