Here comes summer -- again

East Midlands Railway is warning its passengers to travel only if they must for the rest of this week, as high temperatures are expected to affect the railway.

The UK Health and Security Agency has issued an amber heat-health alert in six regions of England from today until Sunday.

People who need to travel are being encouraged to do so before 12.00 noon, avoiding the hottest part of the day.

EMR said some of its intercity services will be suspended, and there will be no regional trains between Nottingham and Worksop or Leicester.

EMR added that its plan for Thursday and Friday remains under review.

The operator’s customer experience director Philippa Cresswell said: ‘The hot weather means we’ll need to make some temporary changes to our services to keep the railway operating safely.

‘If you do need to travel and the journey is essential, we’d recommend travelling before midday and checking your journey before setting off.

‘We appreciate these changes may inconvenience some customers and we'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we work to keep people moving safely.’
