THE Swedish record-breaking Regina Train prototype, developed in a partnership which includes Swedish Railway administration Banverket and Bombardier Transportation, has been tested successfully between Vasteras and Stockholm.
Set to cut travel time between Stockholm and Gothenburg by 15 minutes and reduce energy consumption by up to 30 per cent, the Green Train concept Regina recently achieved a speed of 295 km/h. It incorporates Bombardier’s Mitrac permanent magnetic motor and EBI Drive 50 driver assistance system which can save up to 15 per cent of traction energy by providing information on speed and traction force.
‘Track-friendly’ bogies are passively self-steering to improve stability and reduce wheel-rail wear and active lateral suspension offers greater comfort for passengers. Also, the train is geared for higher speeds with traction motors on six axles and a pantograph for higher speed on existing catenaries.
