Pendolino is a mini model of success

VIRGIN Trains on-board customer care assistant Ingrid Hrehova found herself promoting a rather smaller, but nevertheless best-selling, version of the Pendolino at Euston station (above).

Diary hears that the company hit record sales during the Christmas and New Year period, with more than 132,000 customers flocking to travel on the miniature’s full-sized partner.

Meanwhile, Diary hears that another, smaller scale, record was being broken, with sales of the 00-gauge models of the West Coast flyers.

Model manufacturer Hornby’s Pendolino train set was its best-selling model during last year, and Christmas sales ensured the record was upheld – proof that exciting things really do come in small packages.

Hornby’s railways group marketing manager Simon Kohler told Diary: “Virgin’s Pendolino has become the iconic image of UK high speed trains, and we are delighted to have included it in our model range.

“As one of our most popular train sets, Pendolino has made it a happy holiday for thousands of people.”
