Scottish route director 'sacked' from Network Rail

NETWORK RAIL has confirmed that its route managing director for Scotland David Simpson has left the company.

Mr Simpson, who was said to have been popular in the Scottish transport community, had been suspended following an internal investigation into the 'improper' promotion of a member of his staff.

He had placed Anne-Marie Harmon in charge of transport arrangements for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, allegedly in breach of the company's rules.

It is reported that Ms Harmon will be returning to her job, but neither she nor Mr Simpson have been available for comment.

Meanwhile, Mr Simpson's responsibilities have passed for the time being to the route's area director west, David Dickson, until a permanent replacement can be appointed.
